As a way to celebrate the New Year and lasting contributions to the site by new users I am continuing this honorary post based on a simple premise...

The user with the highest rank in the yearly reputation league that was not previously ranked. For the Year 2024 league the winner is:

Hao Lano

Finishing #27 with 2,252 reputation is a fine entrance to the community. Please join me in congratulating this exceptional new user!

An honorable mention also goes to

Tough year for new users. #27 is pretty low compared to previous years.

@Randal'Thor Rank and reputation are both lowest yet. Hopefully it is not a trend. I remain optimistic like the bounce back year in 2022. It was also nice to see someone (Judith) return to the site after a long absence. Commented Jan 6 at 16:44

Is it that time of year again, where I complain bitterly about being excluded from the list because I joined on 26th December 2013?

We definitely need to have a good hard think about ways to encourage people to ask more questions.

@Valorum More good* questions, possibly. (* according to a good* definition of good)

@lfurini - Sincere questions, asked earnestly, about a SFF property that one wishes to gain more knowledge of = Good, as far as I'm concerned.

Judith Jones has my vote, however. Her contributions are truly valuable.

@Valorum It can be that time of year... But let's not forget all the people who joined in Smarch, looking for something to do inside while sheltering from the dreadful Smarch weather. They're all excluded because SE only recognises twelve months in the year!

Although Hao's questions aren't always to everyone's tastes, it's great to see a user who's really trying to get to grips with some of the more challenging colloquial language used in films like Across the Spider-Verse and Dune that we native English-speakers take for granted.

Well done!

Well, Judith Jones definitely has my vote!

There are some users you just know you'll enjoy reading their questions, both because they provide the necessary context and because what they ask about is interesting.

I didn't know she went back to 2018, I only noticed her questions this year. Kudos to her. Here's to more quality questions in 2025!
